Project Update—Big Horn Emergency Services Facility
Berry Architecture is currently working on a new fire station for the Stoney Nakoda Nation in Big Horn, Alberta. Construction is progressing well. The building is now fully enclosed, and both exterior and interior work are underway. The new fire hall will have two drive-through apparatus bays, a decontamination room, duty gear cleaning, turnout gear storage, a change room, an office, a training room, and ancillary spaces. The project is proceeding on schedule. Here are a few of the latest construction photos.
New Project—Princeton Public Works Building
A new project that we are working on with Ledcor Construction will be breaking ground soon. This will be a new public works building for the Town of Princeton, BC. The new facility will accommodate the repair and maintenance of the Town’s industrial and commercial fleet. It will have a total area of 910 sq. m. and will consist of a shop space with adjacent administration, personnel, and service spaces. Maintenance repair shop, tool storage, fuel and forklift storage, offices, washrooms, and staff room are to be located on the main floor, with a mezzanine floor to be used primarily for open storage with enclosed mechanical and IT rooms. The ground-breaking ceremony will take place on October 26th, and Carlos will be attending representing Berry Architecture.
New Project—Starbucks Plaza CRU, Innisfail, AB
Another project that is ready for construction is a new five-bay CRU (Commercial Retail Unit) in Innisfail, AB. The anchor will be a new Starbucks, and the four remaining bays are still to be filled, with a possible food outlet in the other end unit. Starbucks will have their signature signage and interior, while the exterior of the CRU will be a mix of metal cladding in faux wood and grey and white panels, with stone accents on the end units. This project is an undertaking with Bellco Ltd. who we are working with on a variety of recent projects.
Here are some things we've been up to:
George, Isaac, Carlos, and Cassia attended the Southern Interior Construction Association (SICA) Golf Tournament on September 22nd. Berry Architecture sponsored a golf hole and ran a putting contest (sponsored by SICA). We also held a “Guess the Number of Tees” competition for six bottles of local Okanagan wine—the winner was a staff member from Falcon Engineering.
George and Isaac travelled to Whistler, BC to attend the annual British Columbia Seniors Living Association’s conference, September 24-26. This two-day conference offered business connections, educational seminars, and a chance to talk about our approach to seniors’ housing with BC providers.
Berry Architecture took part in a Red Deer Chamber of Commerce “Business After Hours” event on September 27th. The event took place at the beautiful Ing & McKee Insurance building in Red Deer. This was a great venue for us because this is a Berry Architecture building that was completed in 2020.
Berry Architecture honoured the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation with our own Orange Shirt Day at the Red Deer office on September 28th. We also recognized September 30th as a holiday for our staff as a small step in the journey towards achieving healing and reconciliation with First Nations peoples in Canada.
