About Us: Our Team's Diversity

Here’s something you may not know about our team—we are a diverse bunch and have been so since Day 1. Currently, our ages range from the early 20’s to the early 70’s! This gives us an exceptional blending of youthful enthusiasm, cutting edge computer knowledge, in-depth experience in a wide range of architectural typologies, plus the wisdom that comes from 40-50 years of experience. We also boast a balanced mix of long-term staff and a crop of recent hires. Since our inception, it has been our policy to hire the most qualified and experienced personnel that we can find. Of course, the majority of our team are Canadian-born, but this policy has often meant that we have hired team members who have come to Canada from many other countries. Currently, we have staff who originated in 11 countries (including Canada). We also have fluency in 14 languages other than English. This helps to give a global perspective to our understanding of architecture in terms of international design, designing for both cold and hot climates, varied construction techniques, and maximizing building envelope systems.

Project Completion: Emma & Co. Law Firm

This recently-completed project is a new construction office building for Emma & Co., a law firm in Lacombe, Alberta. This is a rather unique project because it is an office building that was designed to fit in well with the surrounding residential neighbourhood. The new two-storey building features a large reception and waiting area, with direct access to a substantial boardroom; six private offices; a large file storage room; and a staff washroom on the main floor. The second floor consists of a full kitchen with stand-alone island; a full bathroom, complete with walk-in shower; and a generous multi-functional space with access to a roof-top patio. This is another project we have completed with contractor, Bellco Ltd.

Project Completion - Westbrook North Housing Development

Westbrook North is the second phase of a multi-family housing project in Westbank First Nation, West Kelowna, BC. This phase consists of 240 residential rental units arranged over three, four-storey buildings. The suite configurations encompass a variety of types and sizes, ranging from bachelor suites to three-bedroom units. Westbrook North was completed in March, 2025 and now complements the existing Westbrook South (Phase 1) which also has 240 units, as well as a stand-alone community centre. Each building features underground parking and is completed to meet BC Energy Code Step 4 requirements and to achieve a Net Zero standard. This project was designed for Highstreet Ventures as part of their rental unit supply. Kelowna and West Kelowna are experiencing a significant housing shortage, and this new project provides some much-needed apartment housing for the region.

Here are some things we’ve been up to:

George and Maryam attended the First Nation Housing and Infrastructure West Conference in Vancouver, April 29th—May 1st. George was a presenter at two sessions, and we had our new tradeshow booth set up as well. George and Maryam had some great conversations with many First Nation representatives regarding their project needs and how we can work with them to enhance their housing and infrastructure.

Carlos attended the Passive House Canada Conference in Ottawa, May 5th—7th. Carlos is our Certified Passive House Designer, and he came back energized with lots of ideas on how to improve energy efficiency in all buildings to a high standard. Give us a call to see how we can offer energy reviews and improvements for your buildings.

Did you know?

Our green roof has fostered biodiversity in an urban setting.

Since planting the green roof in 2012, we have seen an amazing amount of biodiversity on the roof—birds, bees, butterflies, insects of all kinds, plus plants that were not originally planted on the roof. Birds have carried and dropped seeds, and we now have wild strawberries, cattails, and a small tree which are thriving.
