Our Interior Design Department
Our new Interior Designer, Tyleena Robertson, has been with us for a couple of months now, and we are working on expanding our interior department and services. Tyleena brings a lot of fresh ideas and a great energy to the team—we are excited to have her expertise on all our architectural projects moving forward. With 14 years of experience in a wide range of project types, she also has excellent mentoring skills and is working with a team member who is considering pursuing a career in Interior Design. Tyleena and George are looking at ways to bring a higher profile to this department. Stay tuned for developments.

New Project: Mînî Thnî Fire Hall + EMS Facility
Berry Architecture is currently working on another new project with the Stoney Nakoda Nation. The project is a Fire Hall and EMS Facility to be located in Mînî Thnî. The facility will be operated by Nakoda Emergency Management Services and will house Nakoda Fire Service (NFS) and Nakoda Emergency Medical Services (EMS). These teams have a huge area of responsibility to cover, encompassing almost 500 sq. km. The new facility is located on a greenfield site and will accommodate: two drive-through apparatus bays for NFS and two drive-through apparatus bays for EMS, a decontamination room, duty gear cleaning, turnout gear storage, a change room, lockers and showers, storage spaces for fire-fighting equipment and supplies, EMS storage spaces, reception, offices for NFS and EMS, a large training room, staff room, and ancillary spaces. The second floor will contain 13 fire and EMS dormitory rooms, along with two kitchens and two dayrooms, fitness room, four washrooms, and ancillary spaces, including an outdoor roof-top patio. This new facility is going to be a great asset to the community, improving safety and well-being for residents of this large region.

Project Completion - West Park Elementary School
We are currently wrapping up a major Building Envelope upgrade project at West Park Elementary School in Red Deer. The upgrade included replacing the windows with new triple-glazed aluminum windows and replacing exterior doors. An additional 50mm of insulation plus concrete block and metal siding were added to the exterior of the school, increasing the energy efficiency of the building and enhancing the comfort of staff and students. The project has transformed the original 1960’s red brick exterior to create a refreshed, modern appearance. At BAA, we have an in-house Building Envelope specialist and have completed many envelope upgrades, including projects for RDSD and other school divisions, commercial and retail projects, government buildings, not for profits, and multi-unit residential. Contact us if your building needs an exterior overhaul.

Here are some things we've been up to:
February 22nd was the Coldest Night of the Year fundraising walk in support of the Red Deer Food Bank and the Mustard Seed Red Deer. BAA had nine walkers come out for the event. Our staff team was made up of: Ray, Angela, Shylia, Tracey, and Sarah.
On February 25th, we took part in the Red Deer Chamber Business After Hours event at the Ballad Group. Jherlyn, Benjamin, Alvin, Tyleena, Ray, and Shylia were the team members in attendance.
Berry Architecture made a donation to the Kootenay Fun 5 Run again this year. This is an annual fun run in support of Kootenay Christian Academy in Cranbrook. They are a client of ours in the region, and we are happy to support them once again. Thanks so much to KCA for the lovely basket of treats!
How many architects does it take to put together a tradeshow booth? We are gearing up for the spring conference season with a dynamic new booth, so we took some time this past week learning how to set it up to be ready for our upcoming conferences and events—ASCHA, Housing and Infrastructure West, Kelowna Chamber Golf Tournament, SICA Golf Tournament, and our Open House in Kelowna on June 9th.

Did you know?
It’s best to wait for consistent daytime temperatures above 10 degrees Celsius before raking leaves in the spring.
Many beneficial insects, like ladybugs, butterflies, and pollinators, overwinter in dead leaves and hollow stems of plants. Raking leaves too early can disturb their habitat and harm their chances of survival.
