Grand Opening for Pleasant View Lodge
The Grand Opening ceremony for Pleasant View Lodge was held on June 1st in Spirit River, AB in conjunction with Spirit River Days. Celebrations included a ribbon-cutting ceremony and a community barbecue provided by the Grande Spirit Foundation. The event was very well attended, with most of Spirit River’s 800+ inhabitants turning out for the big day! Isaac and Ray represented Berry Architecture at the festivities. The lodge is now complete—furniture was installed in mid-May and residents are moving in now. Stay tuned for professional photos of the project!
Welcome Summer Students
We have two summer students working for us this year. Lynden Lihaven is working in the Red Deer office. He has completed his first year of Architectural Technology at SAIT and started working with our team on May 6th. He will be here for the whole summer, finishing at the end of August. We are so pleased to have such a helpful addition to our team. Welcome, Lynden!
We are excited to welcome back Emma Saville who is working in our Kelowna office again this summer. Emma is a student in the Faculty of Architecture at the University of Toronto. She has completed two years of study, and we are very fortunate to have her back on our team for the summer. She is fully up to date with our methods and was able to jump right in. Welcome back, Emma!
Project Update: Medium Pace Winery
Medium Pace Winery near Summerland, BC is currently under construction. Berry Architecture has been working with the owners over the past few years, and it’s great to see this project coming to fruition. The new winery is situated on the slopes of Okanagan Lake, with the building oriented to maximize the experience of the site and surrounding views. The main elements are the residence, a future vacation rental suite, the workshop housing the wine-making process, and the public tasting room which provides views of the cellar, the vines, and the lake. Construction is progressing well. Here are some construction photos taken on June 11th.
Here are some things we've been up to:
On May 22nd, BAA sponsored the “Hole in One” grand prize at the 39th Annual Kelowna Chamber of Commerce Golf Classic in Kelowna, BC. Carlos, Emma, and Ileana were on hand to greet the golfers on the course. We had a “Putt for Golf Balls” game and “Guess the Number of Tees” contest for a prize of local wines.
Carlos and Isaac were in Penticton, BC June 4th-6th, representing Berry Architecture at the tradeshow for the Educational Facility Managers Association (EFMA) 2024 Conference. The event was held at the Penticton Trade and Convention Centre. It was a great opportunity to showcase our commitment to and experience in the field of educational architecture.
June 6th was “World Green Roof Day”. In honour of this occasion, we hosted a tour of our award-winning green roof facilitated by Cynthia Pohl of Living Lands Landscape and Design. The tour was very well attended with a couple of groups from Lacombe, plus some Red Deer locals.
We took part in the Southern Interior Construction Association (SICA) Golf Tournament in Kelowna on June 7th. BAA sponsored Hole # 8. Ray was our official golfer, and Carlos and Emma held down the fort at our booth, chatting with all the groups and taking care of our contests and prizes.
Did you know?
Architecture was once an Olympic Sport! “During the first four decades of the modern Olympic Games, 151 medals were awarded for music, painting, sculpture, literature, and architecture. Baron Pierre de Coubertin, who revived the modern games and founded the International Olympic Committee, considered art an essential part of the competition. The one caveat: every submission had to be sports-related.”
