Project Completion: Beaver First Nation Administration Building

We have just completed a new Band Administration Centre for Beaver First Nation in Child Lake, AB. The new building consolidates the Band’s administrative functions and programming spaces into one location. It is now home to the Band Administration suite, with offices for Chief and Council members, the Band Administrator, and two boardrooms. There are spaces for the administration departments, including: social services, finances, lands, public works, human resources, education, and assets. Spaces have also been provided for intake and membership, special projects, a vestibule/lobby, reception, staff kitchen, and various storage and file rooms. Additionally, there are areas throughout the building to display culturally significant art and artifacts, plus a large outdoor courtyard on the south side that provides space for cultural and community gatherings. The Band is currently completing the final landscaping, and the grand opening will be held in September.

Project Completion: Spirit River Seniors' Apartments

Berry Architecture has recently wrapped up another project for the Grande Spirit Foundation in Spirit River, Alberta. This new seniors’ apartment building is a self-contained, independent living building located on the same site as the new Pleasant View Lodge (also a BAA project). There are 26 units of varying sizes, arranged over four storeys. The building features several amenity areas, including a multi-purpose room which is intended to be used for fitness programs, community meals, and special events. It consists of one large space that can be divided into two generous rooms via an operable wall. There are also common laundry rooms and cozy gathering areas on each floor. The overall site now offers a wide range of housing options for seniors in the area.

Project Completion: Citygate Multi-family Development

A new six-storey apartment complex in Langford, BC is now complete! This multi-family project on Citygate Boulevard features a wood-framed construction building over a one-storey concrete parkade. The apartment provides 132 units, with 36 one-bedroom, 84 two-bedroom, and 12 three-bedroom units. There is underground parking, and amenity spaces include a community room and gym on the third and fourth floors, a dog run, and a community garden. There is also a stairway connection to an existing trail that meanders through mature trees and connects to the greater neighbourhood. The building has been certified as meeting BC Energy Code Step 4 requirements and has obtained a Net Zero standard. We were so pleased to work with Highstreet Ventures on the project which was completed on time in July of 2025.

Here are some things we’ve been up to:

Hey, did you know that BAA is working in the UK? We have partnered with a London-based architect, and we can now look after projects across the UK! George will be flying over at the end of the month to meet with contacts in London and York.

Suman and Carlos attended “Meet the City – Hot Topics” on July 8th at the Kelowna Yacht Club, put on by the City of Kelowna and developers. The presentations covered fire mitigation, climate initiatives, and wildfire prevention. Discussions included preparedness, new bylaws, construction and emergency service challenges, protecting lives and buildings, and proactive things the City is doing to make Kelowna a more resilient community.

August 17th, 1998 was Berry Architecture’s official date of inception. This year is our 27th Anniversary!
