Mount Calvary Lutheran Church

Red Deer, Alberta

This project was a major renovation of Mount Calvary Lutheran Church (MCLC), an existing church in Red Deer, Alberta. Located in the well-established neighbourhood of Sunnybrook, the church has excellent access and visibility from the busy 32nd Street thoroughfare. Although there have been previous renovations, including a minor renovation by Berry Architecture several years ago, the facility was in need of a major upgrade. With the desire to attract new congregants and ensure the longevity of the church, MCLC embarked on this upgrade.

Scope of work for the project included the addition of a vestibule on the south side of the building; a new chancel which was an extension to the west side of the existing sanctuary; a new cross-shaped window on the north side of the sanctuary; a stand-alone barrier free washroom; a new mail room; renovations to the existing washrooms; relocation of amenity spaces; new lighting and flooring upgrades; and mechanical improvements. The newly renovated space provides inviting, light-filled places for congregation members to worship, socialize, and gather in large and small groups.
