CP Resthouse
Golden, British Columbia
This new resthouse in Golden, BC is a design-build project, partnering with Silverado Industries. The project required an 81 suite, dormitory-style resthouse for Canadian Pacific (CP) employees with the capability to rent out one wing to other companies. There are common laundry, kitchen, and lounge areas for residents’ use. Each suite is a one bedroom unit with a private bathroom. The project utilized wood construction with both flat and sloped roofs. CP was provided with design drawings, 3D images, and full construction drawings for review before and during construction.
The building featured energy-efficient components such as enhanced insulation and a rain screen and utilized renewable resource building materials. Accelerated construction techniques were employed to expedite the project. Multiple roof slopes and creative use of colour impart architectural interest in a building which is primarily utilitarian in purpose. The resthouse provides a new level of comfort and aesthetics for “camp” style living.
