Berry Architecture has worked with the Evergreens Foundation on an ongoing basis to create a major expansion and renovation of the Parkland Lodge in Edson. There are 105 suites in total with 42 standard lodge suites, 6 one-bedroom units, 16 memory care suites (to be used as DSL units at this time), 18 renovated suites, and 23 rental apartments—21 one bedroom and 2 two-bedroom. Amenities include an open concept dining room, commercial kitchen, patios or balconies for all new units, four public balconies and three public patios, hair salon, two small dining areas, scooter storage, family dining room, four recreation/multi-purpose rooms, eleven common areas/sitting areas, three resident laundry rooms, and two spa rooms. All rental suites have independently controlled air conditioning and heating. The facility provides a range of seniors’ living opportunities from completely independent apartments to Level 4. The lodge itself encompasses Levels 2 to 4.
We worked within the existing site conditions which include beautiful grounds, walking paths, and a creek running through the property, all of which were maximized in the design. The resulting lodge is a lovely, comfortable, and homey residence for Edson area seniors. In the initial project development process (2014), we provided a full complement of 3D presentation boards, a full size suite representation, and an open house for the residents, their families, and the community to present the design.
